Our Culture

At Namaste by Delhi Darbar, we are incredibly lucky to have realised our dream, but we are happy to admit that we may not have achieved any of this without borrowing from our rich cultural heritage, learning lessons from those who have gone before us and gratefully receiving the love and support of others.

For those less fortunate, that dream may still seem like a world away and so we believe now is the time to give back.

Hanging Baskets.

When visiting our restaurant we invite you to look up to discover 350 golden rattan baskets, each one unique and skilfully woven by hand by a small group of widowed women from central Delhi.

These baskets are distributed to markets throughout the local area, giving this small community enterprise a sense of pride, a feeling of hope and a means of helping them to help themselves. Because every basket is sold at a fair price, this allows them to feed and educate their children, to improve their living conditions and to reinvest in their future.

FROM INDIA WITH LOVE.

The Taj Mahal in Agra was the ultimate labour of love created by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in honour of his late, favourite wife Mumtaz. An incredible 20,000 artisans worked tirelessly for 10 years realising this magnificent white marble mausoleum, estimated in today’s terms to have cost almost £700 million.

Now a UNESCO world heritage site, and with close to 8 million visitors every year, tourists from around the globe flock to what has been declared one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
